What To Expect
The Initial Consultation (1 hour)
The first time we meet is a chance for us to get to know each other, to process some intake information and to ascertain your goals. There is no hypnosis during this initial session; instead it allows us to have a conversation about your hopes, goals and how hypnotherapy can help you achieve them.  It is also a good opportunity to ask any questions about the process, so that you can feel comfortable and informed about what will happen and how it will help. Here’s what the first session will look like: We’ll have a chat about what brings you to hypnotherapy. We’ll discuss any challenges you’re experiencing and how you might like your life to look different. I’ll gather some general information including your contact details, some background on your health and any conditions that might be relevant. This information will help me to assess your present situation and the best way we can work together to make changes. We’ll take a look at the basic neuroscience behind hypnosis; how the brain works, how we process thoughts and emotions, and how we can play a very intentional role in changing patterns and behaviours. We’ll also discuss what trance - the state of being in hypnosis - is, and what you can expect from our work together. I’ll share with you my relaxation track (via a link to the online mp3), which you will use in between sessions. This has the dual benefit of helping you to relax any time you listen to it, and strengthening the work we do in sessions, enabling you to feel better more quickly.
Subsequent Hypnotherapy Sessions (1 hour)
If you’ve never tried hypnotherapy before, it’s natural to feel a bit unsure about what to expect. A typical Solution Focused Hypnotherapy session is calm, collaborative, and tailored to you—and it’s nothing like stage hypnosis or losing control. Each session is divided into two parts: 1. The Talking Part We’ll begin by focusing on where you are now and where you’d like to be. Unlike traditional therapy, we won’t dig into the past—instead, we’ll explore your goals, identify what’s already working, and build on your existing strengths. You’ll be asked solution-focused questions designed to help you think in a more positive, forward-looking way. 2. The Hypnosis Part Next comes the relaxation and hypnosis portion. You’ll sit or lie down comfortably, close your eyes, and simply listen as I guide you into a deeply relaxed state using calming language and soothing imagery. This part feels a lot like daydreaming or that floaty feeling just before sleep. While you're in this state, your mind becomes more open to helpful suggestions that align with the goals we discussed. You’re fully in control the entire time, and most people find this part deeply relaxing and enjoyable. Afterwards, you’ll return to full awareness feeling calm, refreshed, and often with a clearer sense of direction.
How Many Sessions Will I Need?
This varies by individual, but often people find that somewhere in the region of 8-12 sessions works for them to see a difference .

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is a partnership between therapist and client, and while I am confident in the result we could achieve it will be impacted by how open to the process and committed to change you are.
