MAGIC?

A lot of people associate hypnotherapy with a magical fix. The word "hypnosis" carries a lot of baggage: thanks to stage shows and Hollywood movies, there’s a lingering idea that I’m going to swing a pocket watch, click my fingers....and suddenly you’ll never want a cigarette again, or your phobia of spiders will vanish, or you’ll now have the productivity of a CEO after 10 cups of coffee.

It sounds pretty nice, a magic wand for the mind. But the reality of Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (SFH) is actually far more impressive—and sustainable—than a quick fix. It’s a process of neurological restructuring.

The Architecture of Change

Think of your brain like a garden that has been slightly neglected. You’ve developed some "weeds"—habits of thought like anxiety, overthinking, or low mood—that have had years to grow deep roots.

Even if I could magically snap my fingers and remove those weeds, the soil is still prepared for them to grow right back. SFH isn't about pulling weeds; it’s about landscaping: we are physically changing the terrain of your brain through neuroplasticity.

  1. Emptying the Bucket: We start by lowering your baseline stress. This isn't a one-and-done event; it’s about consistently training your brain to move from the "Primitive" survival center back to the "Intellectual" rational center.

  2. Building New Pathways: Every time we focus on your "What’s been good?" and your "Preferred Future," we are laying down new neural tracks. Research shows that it takes consistent repetition to turn a new thought pattern into a default habit.

  3. The Compound Effect: Just like going to the gym, you don't walk out after one session with a six-pack. But after a few weeks of consistent "mental reps," you suddenly realise that the things that used to trigger you just... don't anymore.

Why "Magic" Doesn't Last (But Processes Do)

If change happened instantly without your participation, your brain wouldn't know how to maintain it. The reason SFH is a process—usually involving weekly sessions—is that we are strengthening your Prefrontal Cortex. We are teaching you how to manage your own "Stress Bucket." If I did it "to" you, you’d be dependent on me. By doing it with you, you gain the tools to stay in the driver's seat for the rest of your life.

The Realistic Timeline

Most clients start to feel a shift within the first few sessions—a bit more "headspace," a slightly better night's sleep. But the real "magic" (which is actually just science!) happens around weeks 6 to 12. This is when those new neural pathways become stronger than the old ones.

Statistically speaking:

  • It takes an average of 66 days for a new habit to become automatic (according to research from University College London).

  • SFH works with this biological timeline, providing the support and the trance-work needed to make those 66 days feel like a steady climb rather than a vertical scramble.

A Friendly Reality Check

So, no, I don't have a magic wand tucked away (unfortunately). What I do have is a scientifically-proven process that respects how your brain actually works.

If you’re looking for someone to "fix" you in forty minutes, I’m probably not your therapist. But if you’re looking to fundamentally rewire how you respond to life—to move from survival mode to thriving mode—then let's get to work. It’s a journey, but I promise the view from the top is worth it!

NOTE: Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is a Collaborative Process

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is not a magic wand, it is a partnership between therapist and client. While I am confident in the results we could achieve, it's important to understand that they are impacted by how open to the process and committed to change you are.
